In deference to more methodical researchers, it must be said that I donot have hard-copy documentation of most of the data in this file. Creditfor most of it belongs to the many genealogists who have generouslyshared the results of their long hours of hard work. Wherever possible, their names, and sometimes email addresses, appear in the footnotes.Without them, this data file would not be possible.
If you are reading this data from a commercial on-line service, please beadvised that such services may be several months behind in postingupdates. For the most recent findings, and relevant photographs, visitthe Landiss Family home page at:
----------
This line has not been shown to have any connection to the main line(John Landers from Alsace-Lorraine). It is included in this data baseonly in sketchy form, and the facts associated with it herein must all beverified before being accepted as true.
This (Christopher's) family settled for many years in southeasternBedford County, TN around Thompson Creek. For a short time Isaac andWilliam Landers, who soon moved to Indiana (1816), lived nearby; but leftwhen they discovered they did not actually receive a land grant whichthey thought was theirs. Since Isaac and William belong to the line ofJohn Landers mentioned above, there is probably some close relationship, but we have not been able to uncover it.
----------
Some have indicated that Christopher is the son of Felix Landers (b. 1690in Germany, d. 1739), and the brother of Felix Jr., (abt. 1710-1770). Sofar I have not been able to document this.
----------
At one time I thought that Christopher was the individual listed asChristian Landes in "Pennsylvania German Pioneers" (A Publication of theOriginal Lists of Arrivals In the Port of Philadelphia) by Ralph BeaverStrassburger, LL.D., President of the Pennsylvania German Society:
[List 41 A] [Palatines imported in the Ship Harle, Ralph Harle, Master, from Rotterdam. Qualified September 1, 1736.]
This Bernese colony has been discussed at length by Mr. G. Kurtz, theState archivist of Bern, in Lists of Swiss Emigrants in the EighteenthCentury to the American Colonies, edited by Prof. A. B. Faust, Vol. II,Washington, 1925, pp. 20-24.

Christian Landes (age 26)
----------
However, I have been advised by Linda E.
ofevidence contradicting the above possibility, a Christian Landes who diedin Pennsylvania, 17 Jan 1782, per research by a Dr. Bittinger. Lindareports over 20 sons named Christian in the first three generations ofthis line. Linda has notes made by Agusta Bruffey who researched the Landes familyquite extensively in the late 30's - 1940's. Bruffey had the signaturefrom the passenger list (traced by the Genealogy Society) and had itcompared by another genealogist to the signature on the will ofChristian. They were similar, but since they were not handwritinganalysts, it was not conclusive but similar with characteristicsmatching.

Jean Heaps [OHeaps@msn.com] says: "If you will look in the deeds of HansMichael Goodnight and Christian Landis/Landess, you will find his namespelled both Christian and Christopher. Someone on the net suggested thatChristopher was the Americanization of Christian. The children ofChristian/Christopher 1710-1771 were given several years ago in 'LandersLandings' and John was said to have been born in 1748 and marriedSusannah Harmon."
So, the likelihood of Christopher and Christian being the same person isstill good.
