In 1924 the United Daughters of the Confederacy developed a SoldiersQuestionnaire to gather information about the "old families". Flavius S.Landers said this about his ancestors (question 44) "Both of mygrandfathers came from Europe, was in some of the German State Rebellion,refugeed to this country and lived and died on the coast of NorthCarolina. I have a cousin of mine from Oxford (NC) who had visited thehome of his ancestors. He was an officer and ??? his ??? sword and otherregalia. My great great grandmother was Irish. Her name was O'Bryant". Onquestion #43 he said his mother was Sarah Landers.
This is proof of the origin of the two George's. His grandmother wasNancy O'Briant and great grandmother was Rebecca O'Briant and DennisO'Briant ggf. The were in Granville County in 1788 and lived there untilthey moved to Parsons County, North Carolina where Rebecca died in 1837and in her will she named all her children.

Flavius S. Landers, Shelbyville, Tennessee, aged 79 years and 3 months,born in Bedford County, TN where he lived when he enlisted into service.Before the war he was a farmer as was his father. Flavius had one cheapsilver watch worth $2.00. His father owned no slaves as he was opposed toslavery but immensely Southern. He did own 135 acres worth about $3,000.Flavius lived in a hewn cedar log house he weatherboarded and sealed.Sawed the logs by hand with a whip saw and dressed them by hand. Hisfather did his own carpenter work and made all the family shoes and madethe first buggy he ever owned. He went to both free or public schools andsubscription, from 5 years old to 17 when not making crops. His schoolwas one half mile to two miles away. He joined the Confederate Service atUnionville June 1861, 23rd Tennessee Blantons Company - was at CampAnderson, Rutherford County, went from there to Bowling Green, Kentuckyand from there to Shiloh. He was captured at Harchies Run in Virginia, 7days before Lee's surrender between Richmond and Petersburg and taken toPoint Lookout, Maryland, was held there until June 19. He was sent fromthere to Washington County and got home on 4th of July. His father wasAnderson Landers, born near Oxford, North Carolina. Both of hisgrandfathers were named George Landers and neither had middle names, sothey were called Grandfather Tar River and the other Grandfather Stumpy,our Great grandfather came from Europe. He lived and died on the coast ofNorth Carolina. His Great Grandmother's name was O'Bryan. Pension No.15499

Mrs. Landers dies at son's home Wednesday.
Mrs. Middie Anne Landers 69 years of age died Wednesday morning at thehome of her son Lawrence Landers a few miles northeast of Plano, withwhom she had made her home for a number of years. Deceased was a nativeof Arkansas. She had lived in South Collins for the past twenty fiveyears. Her husband preceded her to the grave many years ago as did alsotwo of her children. Five children survive as follows. Mrs. Zoa Thompsonof Jacksonville, Texas, J. S. Landers of Paris, Texas, Mrs Katie Clark ofMelbourne, Arkansas, Lawrence Landers of Plano, Texas and Lewis Landersof Emporia, Kansas. She also has a brother living in South Texas and twosisters who live in West Texas. Mrs. Landers was a member of theMethodist Church. Funeral services were held today in the Wilson ChapelMethodist Church, five miles east of McKinney. Conducted by Rev. Pitts ofDallas. Interment followed in the Wilson Chapel Cemetery.
